New York is, without doubt, one of the finest places in the world to enjoy stunning city skyscapes whilst relaxing with a drink on a rooftop bar. With international travel plans pretty much on hold for the moment, here are our top five rooftop bars where you can enjoy a little bit of the rest of the world without leaving the city.
1. SERRA by Birreria
This little corner of Italy can be found on the 15th floor of the Italian store Eataly and offers a cozy plant-filled environment in which to enjoy some hearty rustic Italian food. There’s a great choice of Italian beer and organically produced wine to complement the food. The view is a little restricted due to the partial covering of the terrace, but you can still get to admire the iconic Empire State and Flatiron buildings which are close by.
2. Savanna Rooftop
Be transported to the vast savannas of Africa when you visit this colorful rooftop terrace in the heart of Long Island. No need to worry if the New York weather is at times a little colder than Africa as you can retreat to the heated Sky Suites to keep the chill away. The bar food is international and the drinks menu offers craft beer and wine, along with their signature cocktails. At weekends you can enjoy a relaxed brunch before a livelier DJ-led vibe takes over in the evening.
Note: Savanna Rooftop is currently undergoing a quick seasonal renovation but should reopen soon – we’re excited to see how great it looks after their renovation!
3. Azul Rooftop Bar
This rooftop bar on the top of the Hotel Hugo takes its inspiration from the vibrancy of Cuba. You can relax with a refreshing cocktail and nibble on some bar snacks whilst taking in the stunning 360-degree views of Lower Manhattan. There’s a laid-back lounge feel during the week, but at weekends the energy levels rise with live DJs to get the party atmosphere going.

4. Terrace on 7
If you are looking for a touch of Japanese exclusivity, then Terrace on 7 might be the rooftop bar for you. You’ll find this lush city oasis on top of the luxury Dominick Hotel, which although not particularly tall, still offers impressive views over the Hudson River and the Manhattan skyline. The wow factor comes in the shape of a beautiful mosaic-lined pool which is open to non-hotel guests if you book a private cabana for the day. Both the food and the drink are Japanese-inspired, with fresh sushi and light dishes on the menu to accompany fresh cocktails.
Terrace on 7 is located at The Dominick hotel.
5. Pod 39 Rooftop
Opening at 5 pm, this makes a great after-work spot where you can unwind with a beer or cocktail whilst taking in amazing views of Midtown Manhattan’s skyscrapers. Sitting in this Mexican-themed rooftop bar on top of the hotel, you are surrounded by arches of ivy-clad 19Th-century brickwork which are b beautifully illuminated by lanterns as night falls. It’s no surprise that this is a popular spot, particularly with a younger crowd. Should you fancy a bite to eat, light meals including tacos from the hotel’s Mexican restaurant are available.
